Submission Rules

Submissions are accepted during predetermined submission windows (submission windows are announced on our Instagram account).

Submissions are made using a Jotform designed to protect the anonymous evaluation process. You will be asked to include contact info for the purposes of communication, but we make every effort to ensure personal identifiers are removed from images prior to the evaluation process. Identifying information remains sealed until a verdict has been reached by judges.

The following criteria for submission must be met. These criteria are nonnegotiable:

1. Submissions must consist of work that has never been published on social media platforms or in print.

2. Each person can submit only one photo for consideration each issue.

3. The work must be created within the geographical limits of Detroit. This can include Hamtramck, but does not include the greater Metropolitan area sometimes colloquially referred to as “Metro Detroit.” The work does not have to feature images immediately identifiable as “Detroit” (i.e. the skyline) but should be “taken” in the city.

4. Submissions must consist of original work (we do not accept work that has been AI generated or modified). You are obviously allowed to edit photos in the conventional sense (via Lightroom and other tools), but we do not accept works generated by artificial intelligence.

Judges will not discuss submissions with applicants. Any violation of the rules for submission may result in the work being pulled from consideration. These rules are designed to ensure work is judged fairly.

Please note: By submitting for consideration, you are agreeing to have your work published in the zine as well as online. We will always attribute proper credit to works featured. Please do not publish photos until after the issue is released.
