Who are we?….

Detroit New Wave is a peer-reviewed quarterly limited-print zine featuring the best of photography captured in Detroit. The zine is free and is printed in releases of 250-500 copies. To ensure fairness, personal identifiers are removed from works prior to evaluation. Works are evaluated by a panel of rotating judges comprised of Detroit-based photographers.

Each issue features approximately 16 photographs bound in physical copy. Zines will be distributed at local locations and can be picked up on a “first come, first served” basis (advance copies are reserved for participating judges and those featured in the zine). To avoid potential conflicts of interest, judges are not allowed to submit to any issue they are judging.

The initial costs of printing the zine are covered by the zine’s founders. Submissions for evaluation will always be free, even if this means the publication runs at a deficit. This measure is intended to forward the zine’s related missions of inclusion and fairness. We may eventually create a system for donations, but funds will only ever be allocated to the continued procurement of future issues.

The zine will remain what it is. Limited run. Profit free.
